2001 population: 69,834 (Source: Statistics Canada) Clarington is a town in the province of Ontario. It is on Lake Ontario. The community was named for Clarke and Darlington townships.
Former and merged community names include:
· Newcastle
The municipality was created in in 1974 through the amalgamation of Bowmanville, Courtice, Newcastle Village and Orono, and all of the rural areas and hamlets in between.
